Fall Begins on Mackinac Island

Posted by Kate Rise on

Riding around the island there are many signs of the fast approaching autumn season. Along M-185 the late summer wildflowers, Fireweed and Queen Anne’s Lace are beginning to fade. The days have that crisp fall feel in the air and are growing shorter, bringing vibrant sunrises and sunsets that are incredible to witness.

On September 1st several of us discussed the different emotions we were feeling—sadness for the season's end so close in sight, disbelief the summer months had passed so quickly, and also, a little excitement for off-season plans.

We’ve had the pleasure of greeting so many guests these past summer months into our shops. Beautiful products have flown off the shelves—and some even selling as we were unpacking! It is a huge encouragement to know that we are on the right track picking out products that you love.
The August window display featured strawberry products surrounded with adorable strawberries and blossoms all handmade from paper by Kate. So cute and a customer favorite!

The staff had two special outings this past month. The first was a lovely meal shared at the Carriage House at the Hotel Iroquois. We dressed fancy, ate delicious food, and watched the super moon rise over Lake Huron. Our friends, Pat and Del, opened the Haunted Theatre just for us and we went through laughing and trying not to scream too loud when we got scared. What a fun time!

For the second outing Kate and Myk shared their beautiful home off the island with us. After a peaceful walk in the woods, an Indian food buffet was served on a candlelit deck. Later lots of stories were told around a campfire while making yummy s’mores. There was the usual debate on whether or not to burn your marshmallow. Amanda was definitely in the "burned black and crispy" camp! And of course the evening included lots of love and petting for Alfie! After a good night’s sleep and a delicious breakfast, it was back to the island.

September and October are great months to visit the Poppin’s shops. Be sure and stop in to see the new fall products that we are putting out daily—fall scented candles, cozy socks, Geometry towels in fall patterns perfect for entertaining, and lots more! And of course, we have a great selection of cards designed by talented artists especially for the season. If you can't make it to the island this fall, you can always shop our fall products on our online shop from your home.
